Meet Our Resident Artist : Kat Duran
Kat Duran is a Filipino-American digital artist based in New York. Under my art business Crystal Hearted Kat, I create cutesy-cyberpop & neo-Y2K art, featuring all original anime characters and urban scenes. Her art explores nostalgia for the early 2000s imagination of the future, as well as her love for cities. As a Filipino-American creator, she often uses the pre-colonial Filipino script of Baybayin in her work.
Inspiration
“I have loved reading manga ever since the first time I picked up a volume of Bleach in middle school. Lately, I’ve been borrowing a ton of manga from the library and reading series that I had watched the anime adaptations for growing up. At the end of Blue Exorcist volumes, manga artist Kazue Kato, includes a bunch of hilarious 4-koma (4-panel comics). I’ve been finding them so enjoyable, and I’ve been wanting to learn how to make bite-sized punchlines like she can! This is my first attempt at 4-koma, so I hope you enjoy it!”
